Commissions and Prices

Carolyn - Hamsterley

'When I saw the portrait completed I couldn't believe how Matt had captured Thomas's personality so well.'

What my customers say

Before you get started on the commission process...a bit of background

I have always loved animals and been fascinated by the natural world around us. Throughout my life I've been fortunate enough to have never been without a dog (or a cat). From Border Collies to Labradors to 'Hienz-57s'! I am a little bit of a 'dog loon'! My passion for drawing animals started when I began to draw my own. For those of you who have (and have had) pets, you will know just what a remarkable bond develops with our four-legged friends. It's like no other. And for me, in drawing my own animals and in my original work, I try to find the individuality of each  animal I'm presented with - because I know it's that individuality which will be important to you. It's the sparkle in the eye, tilt of the head or jut of the jaw which marks that particular animal...as YOURS!

I'm thrilled to have developed a reputation for capturing this individuality and character in my commissioned pieces and I've included a few examples below.

So...let's get you started!

It's quite a decision to take - to commission a portrait of your pet. There can be quite a bit to think about. So, to help, I wanted to make the process as easy as possible for you. In-fact, it couldn't be easier. Just read through the questions and answers set out below, check the price list and the list of additional items, decide what you want and then click on the button below to send me the details of your chosen commission and to raise any further questions you might have:

So how does it work?

Well, it really couldn't be easier. I work from photograph which means no lengthy or repeat sittings. All you have to do is choose the commission that is right for you from the list below, and then email me a few photographs. Most folk send up to 5 photos. Now I know that our animals can be quite tricky to photograph, so click here for some tips here - but if you'd like me to head out and take photo's with you - then just say - I'm more than happy to do it.

And how long does it take?

It normally takes between 4 - 6 weeks to complete the commissioned piece, but it can take a little longer depending on the volume of work I have on at the time. So, if you are planning the commission to coincide with a birthday or anniversary do bear this in mind. (Alternatively, you can take any worry about the timing of the commission out of the equation by getting a Gift Voucher instead...just a thought!).

How and when do I pay?

Again, it couldn't be easier. I take 50% up-front and the remainder paid when I handover the commission. You can pay this via internet banking / electronic bank transfer - and I will provide you with my bank detail once the commission is confirmed. Alternatively, you can pay by cash or cheque made payable to 'mts portraits'.

And what about mounting and framing?

I take great care in mounting and framing all of my commissioned pieces, and you'll be pleased to know that any mounting or framing costs are included in the price set out in the menu below. Once we have agreed the commission, I'll chat to you about the best colour / type of frame for the piece and we will agree this together.

And how do you deliver the finished commission?

If you live within 30 miles, I really like to hand-deliver - and when I hand-deliver there is no additional postage / shipping charge. If postage / shipping is required, then I add an additional £15 to the commission price for 'standard' commissions and £20 for 'large' commissions.

I ship internationally too, and where this is the case, I will provide an estimated additional postage charge which will be confirmed once the commission is complete and ready to ship.
