These cows were lined up on a Spring day in early May in a lush green North Yorkshire field, seemingly ready for inspection. What struck me about this piece as I was composing it wasn't only the four cows sense of togetherness (crowding shoulder to shoulder for solidarity), but chiefly it was the quintessential English scene. The green-grass-meadow, the hawthorn hedge and oak boundary lines of the field, and the whispy-whitish clouds in the ceruleum blue sky.
